piston

So, what exactly is a piston? A piston is a small tube or cylinder that goes up and down inside the engine. It is attached to something called a "crankshaft The role of the crankshaft is to provide a smooth movement for the piston. A little explosion is caused inside the engine by burning gasoline in it. This explosion drives the piston up and down, which is what turns car wheels or gets a train chugga-chugging its way along some tracks.

Imagine if you had a balloon. When the gas escapes rapidly, it propels itself out the other end of that balloon - and you get launched in an opposite direction. The same is true of an engine! Just as air pushes a balloon, gas exploding in the engine is pushing against just one side of it (the piston). It is a means by which everything comes together with the help of piston.

Understanding the piston's role in an engine.

Okay, so why then is the piston that important? Our cars, trucks and trains are not going to move without a piston. It is the heart of the engine, pumping and pushing to make everything go. As much as our hearts pump blood to maintain us - and the piston helps everything in place... An engine wouldn't work if the piston doesn't move and we couldn't travel as far as so many of us want to.

For a lot of time, pistons have been used in engines. Once upon a time, so long ago steam locomotives were pushing boats and piston boats ran along the water. Sleepers those engines were ofcoarse a lot different to what we now know today! Today, we apply pistons in any engine We have them in our cars, and so do airplanes, boats and even some motorcycles. The significance of pistons in a wide variety of vehicles is truly astounding to imagine!
